Prevent a seemingly unsolvable phone lock-out=here is some straightforward & common-sense advice. After you get a new device, install a micro-SD card & load all your desired apps. BEFORE YOU SET ANY LOCK PIN/PASSWORD/PATTERN-REGISTER YOUR PHONE ON A SAMSUNG ACCOUNT! Enable auto-backups of apps/themes/SMS/texts/contacts, etc, in the Samsung Account, save all media that you can to the micro-SD card (back this up too on PC), then proceed with your lock settings. Then, if you run into a situation like I did, where Google Device Manager and/or Samsung Find My Device functions for resetting the password fail, REMOVE your micro-SD card & do a FACTORY RESET. This WILL erase ALL data from your device. BUT, when you turn it on & go through the initial set-up, just log-in to your Samsung Account & click on RESTORE! YOU DON'T HAVE TO REINSTALL EVERYTHING-ALL APPS/SETTINGS/SMS/TEXTS w/PICS/CONTACTS/APPS/THEMES/WALLPAPERS/RINGTONES/CALENDARS/CLOCKS...YES, EVERYTHING, will be restored to your phone, as of the latest backup date & time!

AT&T will tell you, as well as others, the phone must be reset Not true. I needed to be sure to save data. 2 ways Device manager will do it, but after you enter a password through their locate my device screen, you cant do it again, it will show a message indicating the new password isn't needed because of the password it knows from your first attempt. If you go through Samsung's website and do find my mobile, it allows you to lock a lost phone with a 4 digit pin, not password. I've used that method twice AFTER using the previous method I mentioned on Device Manager once. you have to register your phone first. obviously. but it does work, And if you didn't register your device when bought, you can now and it works. Took me a bit to find/figure it out because of all the misleading, sales ploys, etc on the net. Hope this helps!! It drove me crazy!!!

It seems both have completely feigned responsibility here, and as a result if anyone forgets their password then you are stuck.
